Each year the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce hosts an Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet where hundreds of people come to honor a “Business of the Year,” "Teacher of the Year", "Emergency Responder of the Year", and “Outstanding Citizen,” that is selected by the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors by secret ballot.
Once the board votes, the Executive Director and President of the Chamber surprise the Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year at their home or business with the news that they have been selected. They are also presented an award the night of the banquet and have a chance to address the guests. The Teacher of the Year is announced at a Faculty Breakfast but they are also presented with the award at the banquet and have a chance to speak also about their career and what this means to them.
The banquet is held on the last Thursday of February each year beginning at 7 pm. The following day, a reception is held for the Citizen of the Year at the Ice House Museum from 2-4 pm with the public welcome to come and congratulate the honoree.
